GORKI GOLF & RESORT

2019-11-09

St. Petersburg, "The Venice of the North", is ranked among the most beautiful cities in the world. The second biggest Russian City with more than five million residents boasts a beautiful location at the estuary mouth of River Neva into the Baltic Sea. With its grand palaces, beautiful parks, elegant channels, wonderful squares and world class museums the city attracts more than seven million visitors per year. St. Petersburg, from 1921 through 1991 named Leningrad, is also worth a trip for golfers, especially since in 2015 approximately 50 km or a one hour drive from the city center Gorki Golf & Resort opened the first 18-hole-course in the Oblast Leningrad, as the area around St. Petersburg is called.

Staying in the peaceful seclusion offered by the four star hotel Gorki Golf & Resort makes the perfect combination to explore one the most spectacular city destination in the world and playing golf in a scenic landscape on one of the top courses in Russia. During the world-famous "White Nights" when the area around St. Petersburg experiences nearly 24 hours a day of sunlight from mid-May to mid-July guests have plenty of time for golf and sightseeing. But not only during the "White Nights" Gorki Golf Resort attracts visitors. The golf season runs from May 1st to October 31st. The hotel is open all year long. In winter guests can use the ice skating rink, the cross-country ski runs and enjoy sleigh rides.

The 6560 (Par 72) championship golf course can accommodate golfers of all levels due to five different tee boxes on each hole. Form the black "tiger" tees the course is a real challenge even for professionals, but provided you use the right tee the course is also fun to play for high handicappers. The course was designed by well-known Finnish golf course architect Lasse Pekka Tilander. The former top amateur and member of the Finnish national team has laid out more than twenty courses in five countries among them master pieces like Pärnu Bay Golf Links in Estonia and Sand Valley in Poland. Tilander, who is also a fully qualified PGA Professional, describes the Gorki course as an "inland links course" with wide fairways and large bunkers.

At the World Golf Awards in 2018 the Gorki Golf & Resort was awarded two prizes, one for "best golf course in Russia" and for "Russia's best golf hotel".

A lavish driving range, putting and pitching greens and three practice holes in combination with the golf academy lead by South African PGA Professional AJ Steyn (Director of Golf) offer a chance to improve or finetune your game. In the spacious two-storied clubhouse guests find a well-stocked Pro Shop, a meeting room on the second floor and a playroom for children. The restaurant serves Russian and international cuisine which can be enjoyed on two terraces looking out to either the 1st or 18st green.

The only golf hotel in the greater St. Petersburg area boasts 26 standard rooms, 4 family rooms plus two luxurious suites with a panoramic view over the whole golf course. In July 2019 the hotel openend a spa with an open-air swimming pool and jacuzzi, Finnish Sauna and massage rooms.

Gorki Golf & Resort can organize complete golfing trips to St. Petersburg with city tours and all transfers from and to the airport. Also starting times and transfers to neighboring golf courses like Peterhof Golf Club, Mill Creek Golf Club or Strawberry Fields Golf Club can be arranged. Gorki Golf Resort is also an ideal base to watch the soccer matches of the 2020 European Championship played in St. Petersburg.

Since October 1st there is no need to apply for a visa in a Russian consulate or embassy. Free e-visa can be easily obtained online for citizens of 53 countries including most European countries.
